Even though currently we are not able to attend the temple, we can help the work move forward in many ways, such as the following:

  1. Live worthy of and keep a current temple recommend;

  2. Work on your family history--President Nelson mentioned this during the April 2020 General Conference. This will enable you to prepare names to take to the temple and share family history with others, especially your family;

  3. Help others do family history work, including through indexing projects on FamilySearch—this was also mentioned by President Nelson during the April 2020 General Conference;

  4. Pray that the Okinawa temple will be completed quickly.

Here are the invitation and promise given by President Nelson during the April 2020 General Conference:

"While worshiping in the temple is presently not possible, I invite you to increase your participation in family history, including family history research and indexing. I promise that as you increase your time in temple and family history work, you will increase and improve your ability to hear Him.”

  1. Some of the temples are slowing opening up. Check out the different phases of reopening:
    The First Presidency also announced their plans for the phased reopening of temples going forward.

    Phase 1: Open for restricted living sealings only. Temple workers will perform living sealings only for previously endowed members under strict guidelines and safety precautions.

    Phase 2: Open for all living ordinances only. Temple workers will perform all temple ordinances for living individuals but will maintain closure of patron housing, clothing, and cafeteria operations.

    Phase 3: Open for all ordinances, with restrictions. Temple workers will continue providing ordinances for living individuals and provide proxy ordinances for ancestors in a restricted manner. The Church will open patron housing, clothing, and cafeteria operations as needed.

    Phase 4: Open for full operations. The Church will resume regular temple operations.

  2. And here is the current list of the temples in Japan.

    Sapporo Japan Phase 1
    Fukuoka Japan Phase 1
    Tokyo Japan Closed for Renovation
    Okinawa Japan Still planned for construction

    Take away message is that 2 temples in Japan are still open for live temple sealings. So families should still prepare to be sealed in the temple, if they still need this blessed ordinance!!
